A recently published study by energy consultancies Ecofys and TÜ Wien, commissioned by EREF, the European Federation of Renewable Energies Producers, derives national target benchmarks for a more ambitious EU renewables target and analyses the positive effect of increased energy efficiency on the effort required to meet the 2030 renewables target.

The difference between the three different Councils can be confusing. Here a short clarification.

On 30 November, the European Commission presented its long-awaited package of Energy Union legislative proposals.

The ‘Clean Energy for All Europeans’ package released by the European Commission today is not consistent with the Paris Agreement’s goal to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C and disregards the fact that the climate crisis poses an urgent existential threat. According to Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, the package will not help the EU reap the benefits of a shift to a fully renewable and efficient energy system.

[Marrakech 15 November 2016] The European Commission received the “Fossil of the Day Award” from Climate Action Network at the UN Climate Summit in Marrakech today. The Commission was given the award for the inconsistency between its rhetoric at the international climate negotiations and failure to walk the talk at home while preparing the future EU energy legislation.

The Global Wind Energy Council, representing wind energy industry worldwide published its bi-annual flagship Global Wind Energy Outlook 2016 today.
