EU set to limit crop-based biofuels as climate impacts are recognised

Last week, Reuters released details about a leaked legislative proposal from the European Commission recommending limits on the use of crop-based biofuels. (1) The proposal forms part of the long-anticipated EU plans to address the indirect land use change (ILUC) impact of biofuels including increased climate impacts and spikes in food prices. The draft framework seeks to reform EU biofuels policy and deal with the growing carbon emissions caused by expanding agriculture for production.

Green Climate Fund ready to operate, once we find the cash.

The 24 board members of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) finally met in Geneva on August 24th. After a five-month delay, the board met to work out the details of how the fund will operate, where its headquarters will be and how the money in the pot will be distributed. [1]

Now the biggest unresolved problem is filling the pot. Currently there are no concrete pledges other than the general agreement made by all UNFCCC parties in Copenhagen to provide $100 billion a year from 2015.
